Mountains at Dusk

Stefani Kolochuk BA, BSW, MSW, RSW

I earned my Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Northern British Columbia. I am a Registered Social Worker with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW) #12571, the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) #846343, and with the Government of the Northwest Territories #5000-71287. My passion is in supporting adolescents, adults and their family systems navigate the complexities of living a meaningful and authentic life.

As a counsellor, I primarily see individuals; adolescents and adults who live with a variety of mental health challenges and existential concerns. I specialize in working with people who have experienced or actively experience grief and loss, traumatic death, suicidal ideation, depression, spirituality and spiritual issues, stress and burnout, substance use, depression, anxiety, emotional regulation, and managing chronic/acute serious illness of self/family.

I support frontline workers who experience vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue in their profession. I have experience working in community for local First Nations government, and supporting Indigenous persons/families in northern regions navigate healthcare challenges and complex health diagnosis/end-of-life concerns.

I believe we heal through safe connections and relationships; with self, community, and the land. This perspective is how I approach my therapeutic practice; together we create a sacred space to explore your challenges, successes and concerns. My approach to practice is informed from an integrative lens; drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness skills training, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and compassionate enquiry, to offer clarity and insight into ones functioning. My social work values ground me in person-centered, strength based, anti-oppressive and social justice focused care. I can help you to create a life you want to be living. I incorporate expressive-arts, somatic, land based interventions into my work.

I look forward to connecting with you and understanding what you are hoping to gain from counselling. My goal is to create a safe and sacred space, that allows you to be your authentic self and work through the hard and confusing times. I understand the importance of connection and safety with a counsellor from my own experience of attending counselling.

In addition to private practice, I work in the healthcare system supporting families through grief and loss, end-of-life concerns, and critical illness.
